Kathmandu: Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel has stated that it would be inappropriate for former President Bidya Devi Bhandari to re-enter active politics. Speaking on behalf of the CPN-UML, Poudel emphasized that individuals who have held the prestigious position of President should remain above party affiliations.
“The President is the pride of the republic,” said Poudel. “Once someone has served as the head of state and guardian of the constitution, they should continue in that national role rather than return to partisan politics.” He confirmed that Bhandari’s party membership will not be renewed.
Poudel also voiced support for removing the age limit of 70 years within the party, aligning with UML’s recent decision to scrap age and term limits, thereby clearing the way for continued leadership under KP Sharma Oli.
